Xavi wants to coach in the Premier League

Xavi Hernandez is a big name in the world of soccer. He used to be a star player for Barcelona and later worked as the team’s manager. Now he has been away from Barcelona for more than a year and recently said in an interview that he would like to try working in England, such as coaching a team in the Premier League.

Xavi played a full 17 years at Barcelona and was one of the most important players in the team’s history. In 2019, he began coaching, starting his coaching career at Qatari club Al Sadd. Two years later, in 2021, he returned to Barcelona as manager. At that time, Barcelona was not doing well, finishing 9th in La Liga. However, under Xavi’s leadership, the team quickly regained its form and won the La Liga title in the 2022-2023 season.

But this coaching experience didn’t last long. In early 2024, Xavi decided to step down after two and a half years at Barcelona. He said, “I felt that Barcelona needed some changes. Working there, I always felt unappreciated and disrespected. That’s probably the way the club works.

Since then, Xavi has not taken on any other duties with the team. In a recent interview with a media outlet, he expressed his interest in coaching in the Premier League. He said: “I don’t know where I’m going to go next as a coach, but I still want to do this job. I’m not in a hurry to make a decision, but I’m looking for a project with a clear goal and a clear plan. Somebody who can say: ‘We’ll give you four years to build a team’.

He added: “I love the Premier League because it’s full of passion and energy. In contrast, it’s so hard to be a coach in Spain. People there only look at results and if you don’t win a game, you get criticised immediately.

Xavi also mentioned that he would like to take the national team to a major tournament. “When I dreamed of becoming a coach, I thought about taking the team to big tournaments like the World Cup or the Europa League. He said, “Those are the most exciting competitions.”

He also talked about the pressure in the Spanish soccer scene. He said, “Look at Carlo Ancelotti, he’s won more than 30 titles in the last ten years and he still gets a lot of criticism. The way some people talk, it’s like he hasn’t won anything. Harvey also compared the situation in other countries: “Arteta, for example, has been at Arsenal for six years and although there have been bad results in between, the club has always supported him. But in Spain, this situation is almost impossible.

Indeed, Xavi’s time at Barcelona has not been without its problems. His relationship with some of the players has not been particularly good, most notably Brazilian star Rafinha.

Last summer, Rafinha went on record saying that he wasn’t too happy with Xavi. He said: “I don’t think the coach and his team have confidence in me. Sometimes there’s no one on the field to change, so I play the whole game, but as long as other players can play, they always give priority to others”. He also revealed that he even considered leaving Barcelona to play in Saudi Arabia.

It is clear from these things that Xavi’s road to coaching has not been a smooth one. Even though he led Barcelona back to the title, he faced many challenges and pressures.

In summary, Xavi is now in a period of career transition. He hopes to find new opportunities in the Premier League in the future, and may also be interested in coaching the national team. Whatever path he ultimately chooses, we look forward to new and exciting performances from the soccer star.
