So I’ve been thinking about Liverpool FC lately, been a fan for ages, right? Wanted to tackle this whole “greatest legends” thing properly. Started by just staring at my laptop thinking “how do I even pick?” Cause you know, every fan’s got their favorites. Went straight to YouTube first – watched old clips of that 2005 Istanbul final again. Stevie G’s header still gives me chills, man.
Gathering Stuff
Dug out my old LFC books from the shelf – dust flying everywhere. Flipped through pages about Shankly’s teams in the 60s. Realized I couldn’t just go by trophies alone. Stats help but… gotta feel the impact, you know? Like Kenny Dalglish – yeah his goals were insane, but how he carried the club after Hillsborough? That’s legend stuff.
Called my mate Dave too – proper Scouser, seen every game since ‘78. We argued for an hour about whether Mo Salah belongs with the old guard. Dave kept shouting “Mate, 44 goals in a season! Unreal!” But agreed you can’t compare eras directly.
Making the Cut
Spread my notes all over the kitchen table last night. Made two piles: “Undisputed” and “Debatable”. Kept moving names around:
- Rush – That man scored like it was breathing
- Gerrard – Heart of the club for 17 years
- Dalglish – Player AND manager greatness
- Hansen – Defence? Perfection
- Barnes – Pure magic with the ball
Had Ian Callaghan in debatable pile first – played 857 games! But Dave convinced me he belongs up there. Hardest was leaving out Fowler. Love the guy but… trophies matter at this level.
Final Run
Woke up at 3AM thinking about Trent Alexander-Arnold – future legend maybe? But nah, sticking with retired players for now. Wrote the list six times before my coffee kicked in. Kept changing the order too. Put Kenny top finally. The King’s legacy still echoes round Anfield today.
Posted it up this morning feeling proper drained. Comments already blowing up about Souness being underrated. Might need to do a part two!
