So yesterday I decided to make one of those match timeline videos for the Southampton vs Brentford game. Wanted it to show all the key moments and goals in order. Thought it’d be simple – boy was I wrong.
The Frustrating Search
First spent ages hunting for footage across different platforms. Kept running into useless short clips or paywalls. Got real annoyed when I found a perfect 3-minute highlight reel only to discover it missed two goals entirely. Why do they even call it highlights if half the action’s missing?
Putting It Together
Finally gathered enough clips after digging through four different sources. Here’s how I built the timeline:
- Sorted clips manually – Opened all the files in my basic video editor and dragged them into timeline order
- Added timestamps – Put ugly yellow text in the corner showing when each goal happened
- Chopped out fluff – Cut away all those pointless close-ups of managers scratching their heads
- Audio nightmare – The commentary volumes were all over the place. Had to adjust each clip separately
Technical Disasters
My ancient laptop started wheezing like an asthmatic donkey during rendering. Whole thing crashed twice when I tried adding fancy transitions. Finally settled on simple cuts after losing 40 minutes of work. Exported at 720p because HD would’ve taken another ice age to process.
Final Result
Ended up with a 6-minute video showing every goal and major chance in sequence. Timestamps jump around a bit when the ball goes out of play, but you see all the important stuff. Looks pretty rough around the edges if I’m honest – might just stick to writing match reports next time!
