My Messy Adventure Picking Providence Park Events This Year
Alright, so every dang year I gotta figure out what’s worth seeing over at Providence Park. Sports, concerts, weird shows… the list just gets longer. My usual “strategy” – if you can call it that – was staring blankly at Ticketmaster and feeling overwhelmed. Total waste of an afternoon. This time, I swore I’d actually do it proper.
First step? I hauled my lazy self down to the actual park office. Figured talking to a real human might cut through the online noise. The dude there was nice enough, shoved this giant calendar flyer at me. Felt like holding a roadmap to potential fun or regret. Better than nothing, I guess.
Got home, plonked the flyer on the kitchen table with a massive mug of coffee. This was gonna require fuel. Started circling stuff that looked cool:
- The obvious stuff: Timbers games. Gotta see some soccer if you live here, right? Picked a few key rival matches.
- Concerts: Some decent names swinging through this summer on tour. Marked a couple.
- Weird local junk: They always have these smaller events… charity runs, maybe a food truck fest thing? Sounded potentially fun or awful. Circled them lightly.
Then came the reality check. My wallet started crying just looking at those Timbers tickets. For decent seats, forget it. And those big concert dates? Prices made me choke on my coffee. Way pricier than last year. Suddenly that charity run looked financially appealing, y’know?
Fine. Time for Plan B: Scouring random resale sites and local forums. This is where it gets messy. Spent hours jumping between sites I don’t fully trust, comparing prices for the same dang event. Found a few Timbers tickets in the nosebleeds for less than a kidney. Good enough. Nailed one concert thanks to someone selling their spare ticket cheaper than face value online.
The real surprise? One of those little “weird” events I almost ignored turned out to be a blast last year. So I actually called the organizers listed on the flyer – a charity doing some festival thing in the park. Got the lowdown straight from them, felt way better about it. Turns out, sometimes skipping the big platforms and going directly works.
Lessons learned? Start early. Hit the park office for actual info. Be ready for sticker shock, seriously, it’s rough. And don’t write off the smaller stuff without checking it out properly – sometimes the cheapest tickets are the most fun. Oh, and always ask directly if you see something smaller listed. Saved me cash and hassle.
