So yesterday I’m sitting around thinking about the Forest and United game coming up, right? And I start wondering, just out of nowhere, who actually wins more when these two play? Seems like every time I watch ’em, United should win, but sometimes Forest pulls a crazy result outta nowhere. So I figure, hell, let’s actually look at the stats properly instead of just guessing. Gotta have a record.
Starting the Slog
First things first, gotta find the actual numbers. Easy? Nah. Opened up Google, typed in something like “Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United all time results.” Boom, loads of links. Started clicking through. Some sites look good, then suddenly they hit you with the “Sign Up For Premium Stats!” crap. Gotta find the free stuff. Finally stumbled on a couple decent footy stats sites – the kind that don’t constantly beg for your cash.
Started digging. Wanted everything: wins, losses, draws. Total games played wherever. Wrote it all down rough in a notebook:
- Total Matches: First thing to find. How many times have they even faced off?
- Forest Wins: How many good days have they had?
- United Wins: Figured this would be the big number.
- Draws: Those boring, annoying stalemates.
- Goals: Who scores more? Who gets pumped?
The Nitty Gritty Work
Settled in. Found the total head-to-head count – took a bit of cross-checking between sites to feel sure. Okay, X matches played overall. Good start.
Then came splitting it up. Needed stats for different places:
- The City Ground: Games actually in Nottingham. Forest at home.
- Old Trafford: United at their place.
- Neutral Grounds: Like cup finals or whatever. Didn’t know if there’d be many.
Going back to old times, like when Forest were decent back in the 70s and 80s, felt messy. Some sites listed results way back, others didn’t. Had to be a bit choosey about how far back to trust. Focused mainly on the Premier League era, cause that felt most relevant now. Plus, easier to find consistent stats there.
Started tallying:
- United Win: Ticked it off.
- Forest Win: Ticked it off.
- Draw: Noted it.
Did this separately for City Ground and Old Trafford. Got my coffee, got a bit bored even, but kept plugging away. Crunched the goals too – total scored by each team.
Putting the Picture Together
Finally had all the raw numbers scribbled down. Time to do the math. Calculate the percentages for wins, losses, draws – that tells the real story better than just raw counts sometimes.
Checked the City Ground stats first. How does United, the big dog, really do visiting Forest? Okay… hmm… Not as dominant as you’d maybe think. Then flipped to Old Trafford. Wow, that looks much more like what you’d expect. United bossing it. Draws? Yeah, a fair few of those popped up too, especially in Nottingham.
Overall picture? Glanced back at my totals. Clear who comes out on top across the whole history, no surprise really. But the where really mattered. Forest ain’t pushovers at home, even if United take most of the points overall.
Sharing Time
Alright, got the facts. Wanted to lay it out simple for the record. Made a table in a doc:
- Total Matches: X
- Forest Wins: X (Y%)
- United Wins: X (Y%)
- Draws: X (Y%)
Broke it down for The City Ground and Old Trafford separately underneath with win/draw/loss stats and goals for each. Clear as I could make it.
Thinking Out Loud
Looking at the final numbers, it kinda clicked why Forest games sometimes feel unpredictable. At their place, they actually have a better record than I thought. They don’t roll over. Makes those weird results make a bit more sense. United obviously dominant overall, especially at Old Trafford – no shocker there. More draws than I woulda guessed too, especially in Nottingham. So the stats back up that feeling: Forest can cause problems, especially at home, but United usually wins the day overall. Funny how the numbers often just confirm what your gut tells you after watching for years. Nice little project. Solid record to have down.
