Mbappe questions referee’s timing after France’s tough loss to Germany
In the early hours of June 6, France lost 4-5 to Spain in an international match at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart, Germany. The match was arguably one of France’s worst performances in recent years.
By the 78th minute of the game, France was down 1-5.The players who scored for Spain were Williams, Merino, Pedri, and the 16-year-old Yamal, who scored two goals on his own.On the French side, Mbappe scored first to help his team take the lead.
However, towards the end of the game, France came out of nowhere and scored three goals in just 10 minutes.Lajan Cherki, Kolo Mouani broke through, and one was an oval goal by Spanish defender Vivian.Although France recovered a few points, they ended up losing 4-5.
According to information provided by statistics company Opta, this was the first time since 1969 that France had conceded five or more goals in a game. That said, big losses like this are very rare.
The first thing Mbappe did after the game was run to referee Michael Oliver. As it turns out, he didn’t think the referee had given enough extra time.To confirm this, he also reached out and looked at the watch the referee was wearing.
Actually, Mbappe didn’t do too badly in this game.He not only scored a penalty, but also assisted his teammate Cherky to score a goal, reducing the score gap to 2 to 5. But even though he tried his best, he couldn’t change the fate of his team’s defeat.
It was also the second time in a row that Mbappe was eliminated by Spain in the semifinals. The last time was at Euro 2024.It was certainly a big blow for him.
This season has not gone well for Mbappe overall. He failed to win any major trophies during his time with Real Madrid – including the Spanish Super Cup, Champions League, Copa del Rey and La Liga.
Next up, Mbappe will take a short break after playing in the third- and fourth-place finals of the Nations League on June 8 before returning to Real Madrid to prepare for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
