Got curious about Leicester City and Man United’s history today, mate. Always felt like those matchups produced some wild results over the years, so I figured I’d dig in proper.
Where I Started
First things first, needed raw data. Thought it’d be dead easy, right? Just look up “Leicester vs Man Utd all matches”. Hopped online, found some fan wikis, checked a few different stats websites. Quickly realised it wasn’t so simple.
- One site showed one score for a particular season.
- Another had a totally different date for the same fixture. Bloody confusing.
- Had to cross-reference like crazy, flipping between tabs like mad.
Honestly, spent a good hour just trying to get a consistent list of past matches and scores. Proper headache. Ended up making my own little spreadsheet, manually typing in dates, venues, and final scores. Old school, but it forced me to check each entry twice. Kept asking myself: Were there periods where Leicester just consistently lost? Or surprised them? Spotting the great escape season was wild – Leicester nicked a 5-3 win! Mental result. Then, later, the title-winning years… some proper humdingers in there.
What Actually Jumped Out
After staring at my screen, crunching numbers like:
- Percentage of wins for each team.
- Average goals scored per meeting.
- Biggest winning margins.
The thing hit me hardest? It wasn’t dominance by either side. It was the sheer unpredictability. Especially in the 2010s. You genuinely couldn’t call it sometimes. Leicester would lose three on the bounce to them, then suddenly pull off a stunner. Felt like David and Goliath vibes switched constantly depending on the year.
Wrapping it Up
Took way longer than I planned. The initial data hunting was a right slog. Felt chuffed I stuck with it though. Learned it’s less about who “dominated” the rivalry overall, and more about wild chapters in a long story. Seriously, that 5-3 game still blows my mind when I see it written down. All those draws too! Point is, digging into the actual numbers yourself stops you relying on fuzzy memories or hype. Highly recommend doing it for your own club’s bogey team.
