Okay so yesterday I got this idea to compare every single time Juventus played against Lecce. You know how some teams just have that weird history? I thought it’d be fun to lay it all out side by side.
Step 1: Hunting Down the Data
First I fired up my laptop thinking it would be quick. Wrong. I started digging around football stats sites for old match records. Man some of those early games are ancient – like digging through dusty books. Found one site claiming Lecce beat Juve 1-0 in 1985 but another site said it was a draw. Spent like two hours just cross-checking different sources.
Step 2: The Spreadsheet Nightmare
Decided to dump everything in Google Sheets. Made these columns:
- Season year
- Where they played (home/away)
- Final score
- Who scored
Started typing like crazy. Big mistake around 2004 – realized I’d swapped home/away columns for three matches. Had to delete half the rows and restart while cursing at my screen.
Step 3: Spotting the Patterns
Here’s the interesting stuff that jumped out:
- Juve smashes them at home like seriously, almost every game in Turin ends with Lecce getting wrecked. Found this 4-0 thrashing from 2021 that made me wince.
- But in Lecce… way tighter games! Like that crazy 3-3 draw last season where they came back twice.
- Weird fact: Lecce hadn’t won against them since 2009 until last December’s shocker. Their fans must’ve gone absolutely nuts.
Step 4: Making It Pretty
Wanted to visualize this mess. Made a timeline chart showing wins/losses/draws per season. Spilled coffee trying to make the colors match their team kits – Lecce yellow came out looking like baby poop. Gave up and used plain red vs blue.
The Big Surprise
Expected total domination but no! In their last six meetings? Juve only won twice. Blew my mind how much Lecce’s improved lately. The spreadsheet doesn’t lie – those southern boys stopped being pushovers.
Anyway moral of the story: always double-check your columns. And Lecce might actually trouble them next season.
