Okay, so yesterday I got this itch to dig into football history, right? Nottingham Forest versus Man City popped in my head. Dunno why, maybe ’cause Forest are back in Prem now. Figured I’d make a timeline thingy for my blog. Classic me – jumps straight into rabbit holes.
Starting the Dig
First, I grabbed my laptop and opened like ten browser tabs. Searched “Forest Man City old matches” and similar junk. Found some dodgy forums where granddads argued about 1970s line-ups. Wasted an hour there before realizing half those dudes were probably drunk when typing.
Fixing My Sources
Switched to legit places. Club websites, proper archives, that boring FA database thing. Got smarter – searched by specific years when Forest were decent ’cause let’s be real, most seasons City stomped ’em. Sorted results from oldest to newest. Made a messy spreadsheet:
- 1970s: Noted every cup clash – cups mattered more back then
- 1980s: Focused on when Clough’s Forest were beasts
- 2000s: Added playoff finals – pure drama
Highlight Hunting
Wanted the juicy bits – not just scores. Hunted for red cards, pitch invasions, wild comebacks. Remembered that 2009 FA Cup match? Googled “Man City 3-0 Forest FA Cup” and bam – found video of fans throwing snowballs at refs. Gold. Also that time Stuart Pearce managed Forest against City? Hilarious tension.
Building the Timeline
Took my spreadsheet junk and slapped it into draft. Sectioned by decades ’cause my brain likes order. Bolded mental results like Forest’s 4-0 win in ’84. Added stupid trivia notes too – like which pubs fans fought outside in ’77. Cause why not.
Stumbling Blocks
Hit a wall with late 90s stats. Sites disagreed on line-ups. Found one forum claiming Beckham played for Forest once? Total lie. Triple-checked everything. Took forever. Almost quit when realizing City’s early 2000s squad had like thirty loanees.
Final Touches
Added pics from Getty archives – old black-and-white ones look sick. Wrote little commentary rants under each big event. Made sure to mock City’s ugly 90s kits. Published just before midnight, yawned like crazy. Best part? Waking up to City fans in my comments crying about the 2012 FA Cup upset. Delicious.
