Complete Timeline Chelsea Against Arsenal FC Last 20 Years Results Analyzed
So I got this idea yesterday after the latest Chelsea match against Arsenal. Wanted to see how these two really stacked up over time. Grabbed my laptop thinking it’d be quick. Ha, not even close.
Where the Data Hunt Started
First I tried those big sports sites. Searched for like an hour but only found last five years stuff. Realized I needed full twenty years – way before Google even got good. Felt so stupid when I remembered the Premier League has their own stats archive. Had to create some free account just to get in there.
Spent afternoon copying match dates and scores into Excel. Hands got tired from all the copy-paste. Got distracted checking old highlights when awesome goals popped up.
The Messy Part
Made massive color-coded spreadsheet:
- Red cells for Arsenal wins
- Blue cells for Chelsea wins
- Grey draws that bored me every time
Forgot how many cup games they played! Nearly missed three EFL Cup matches cause they weren’t labeled properly.
What Jumped Out
Couple wild things hit me:
- That 2004 “Invincibles” Arsenal squad? Smashed Chelsea 2-1 twice. Remember Thierry Henry dancing through defense? Chills.
- 2010s Chelsea domination shocked me – blue wins everywhere for like five straight years. Drogba was a machine against them.
- Last five years turned into ping-pong. Arsenal wins at Emirates, Chelsea wins at Stamford Bridge. Weird pattern.
Started seeing trends when I drew timelines. 2012 felt like turning point – Chelsea suddenly stopped losing at home.
Gotcha Moment
Biggest surprise? Both teams sucked equally in 2015-16. Only one win combined that whole season! Leceister stole the show that year anyway.
Finished around midnight with sore eyes. Made coffee and wrote notes while scrolling the spreadsheet. Realized newer stats don’t show how intense 2000s matches were. More red cards back then!
Kinda depressing seeing Chelsea’s decline recently though. Those old Mourinho teams felt unbeatable.
