Alright folks, decided to track down that Chelsea vs Servette Europa League game from a while back. Wanted the whole story, minute by minute. Grabbed my tablet, found a decent stream – buffered like crazy at first, typical – got comfy, and hit play.
Setting The Stage
Kicked off pretty scrappy, both sides finding their feet. Chelsea looked kinda nervy, you know? Servette weren’t afraid, pressed them early. Felt like it might be one of those frustrating nights for the Blues.
First Half Shuffle
Then bang! Around the 20-minute mark, Chelsea finally woke up. Nice bit of play down the left, cross came in, bit of a scramble, and Tammy Abraham just poked it home. Relief! One-nil. Rest of the half? Honestly, bit dull. Chelsea had most of the ball but couldn’t do much with it. Servette dug in, hard to break down. Half-time whistle blew, just that single goal.
- ~23 mins: Abraham scores! Taps it in after a scramble. Chelsea 1 – 0 Servette. Crowd noise came through loud then.
- ~40 mins: Ziyech took a crack from distance. Ballooned way over. Pretty quiet after that.
Second Half Surprise
Came back out thinking Chelsea would push on, boss the game. But nah. Servette came out with fire! Around the 50th minute? Ouch. Their guy Kutesa smashed one in from outside the box. Absolute rocket. Keeper stood no chance. One-one. Chelsea were properly rattled for a bit after that. Fans got restless. Heard a few groans through the stream.
- ~51 mins: Kutesa. What a strike. Levelled it for Servette. Chelsea 1 – 1 Servette. Unexpected, that one.
- ~65 mins: Mount had a decent chance, keeper pushed it wide. Corner came to nothing.
Squeezing It Out
Frank Lampard (still manager then) looked proper ticked off on the touchline. Made a couple of subs – brought on Pulisic and Giroud maybe? Felt more urgent. Then, finally! Roughly 70 minutes gone. Cross came in from the right, Giroud lost his marker, powerful header down low. Clean finish. Two-one Chelsea. Just needed that bit of quality.
- ~71 mins: Giroud! Strong header! Chelsea back ahead. 2 – 1.
Seeing It Home
Last 15-20 minutes? Standard Chelsea closing out a nervy game. Loads of passing sideways, killing time. Servette tried pushing late, a few corners maybe? Nothing too scary. Chelsea saw it out. Final whistle blew. Job done, I guess, but felt harder work than it should’ve been.
Packed it in after that. Stream died on the celebrations anyway. Solid enough win in the end, but showed some wobbles they definitely needed to fix later in the campaign.
