Getting Those Chelsea vs Newcastle Tickets
Alright, so my mate calls me up last week. “Big match coming,” he says, “Chelsea playing Newcastle at the Bridge. Fancy going?” Yeah, course I did. Problem? Getting the bloody tickets. Know that pain, right? Everyone scrambling like mad when tickets go live.
First thing first: Chelsea tickets, especially for a decent prem game like this, ain’t just sitting there waiting. You gotta jump through hoops. Membership. That’s the golden ticket. Or rather, the ticket to even try for tickets. Me and my mate, we’re members thankfully. Regular ones, not the fancy expensive ones. Makes it cheaper per game.
Plan of attack: Knew the tickets were gonna drop on the main site. Didn’t know exactly when though. Kept checking the news page every day. Morning coffee, check the site. Lunch break, check again. They finally announced the date and time for members sale. Bingo.

Queue time. Ugh. 20 minutes before sale opened, I refreshed like crazy. Then bang – pushed into the dreaded online queue. Little bar creeping along. Heart rate definitely up. Got in after about 15 minutes of absolute torture watching that bar crawl. Couldn’t celebrate yet though.
Inside the battle zone: The map loaded. Sea of grey (sold out) and blue (available). Clicked Shed End Lower fast. Fewer blues than I hoped! Saw two together in Block 7. Mouse hovering. Clicked. Got that “Processing” spinner. Fingers crossed! Then… ERROR. Greyed out. Someone beat me to ’em. Gutted. Panic set in.
Scramble mode: Clicked back fast. Refreshed the view. Found two singles, different blocks. Nah, pointless. Kept refreshing. Then, two more popped up in Block 8! Smashed that “Buy” button like my life depended on it. This time… YES! Got the confirmation spinner. Then the page loaded… PURCHASE COMPLETE! Massive relief!
Payment pinch: Price was… well, it’s Premier League football in London, innit? Cost me about £320 for the pair. Went straight onto the card. Got that email confirmation almost instantly. Printed the tickets out straight away – no chance of phone battery nonsense on the day for me.
What actually worked:
- Membership is 100% essential. No membership, almost impossible unless you want to risk paying way more elsewhere.
- Be ready EARLY. Logged in, signed in, cards saved in account.
- Know your sections roughly. Didn’t have time to faff deciding West vs East Stand. Had a rough plan (Shed End good view, Matthew Harding loud).
- Fast internet helps. No distractions.
- Be flexible BUT quick. Wanted Block 7, settled fast for Block 8.
- If you see seats, GRAB THEM. Don’t hesitate or browse. Click and pray. No time.
Lesson learned? It’s stressful as hell. You need patience, speed, membership, and a good chunk of luck. Sitting in Block 8 at the Bridge for the match, though? That bit’s definitely worth the chaos. Just be prepared for the online scramble! Good luck!
