So yesterday I’m scrolling Twitter when I see folks buzzing about Chelsea playing some match soon. Club América? Yeah, that Mexican team. Immediately I’m thinking, “Wait, when is this even happening?” Totally caught me off guard. Needed to figure out the kick off time and how to watch it, fast. Didn’t want to miss it.
Starting the Hunt
First thing I did was hop onto my laptop, opened my browser – Chrome, obviously – and typed “Chelsea FC vs Club América time” into Google. Simple search, right? Figured it would pop right up. Got tons of results, sure, but man, the times were all over the place. Some sites said evening, others said afternoon. Got instantly confused. Time zones. Again. Football never makes it simple.
Then I remembered the match is in the US. Atlanta or something? Yeah. So I mentally added, “Atlanta time” to my search. Refreshed the page. Better. Most results now agreed on one time slot: July 20th, late evening Eastern Time. Okay, progress. But 8:15 PM? That seemed weirdly specific, almost fake. Had to dig deeper.
Double-Checking Sources
Didn’t trust just one site. Went down the list clicking like crazy:
- One major sports news site had it at 8:15 PM ET.
- Chelsea’s official US tour page confirmed it, buried in a schedule list.
- Even the stadium website mentioned gates opening times aligning with that kickoff.
Phew. Okay, 8:15 PM Eastern Time, July 20th. Locked that in.
The Streaming Maze
Now, where to watch? Here’s where it got messy. Live in the UK, see. Match is in America, middle of the night my time. Premier Sports show Chelsea pre-season stuff here usually. Pulled up their website. Nothing. Zilch. Nada about this specific match.
Panic started. Searched “Chelsea vs Club America UK TV”. Saw chatter on forums – mostly people as lost as me. Then someone mentioned Chelsea’s own streaming service, the official one. Went straight to the Chelsea FC website, navigated the mess of menus. Found the “Broadcast Info” page deep inside. Bingo! It clearly stated the match would be live on The 5th Stand app and the official Chelsea website. Required a subscription, obviously. My existing one was expired. Sigh.
Getting Set Up
Fine. Time to renew. Grabbed my phone, opened The 5th Stand app. Tapped the “Subscribe” button staring right at me. Followed the prompts. Credit card out. £4.99 for the month. Done. Easy enough. Got the confirmation email seconds later. App refreshed, and yep, saw the match listed: Chelsea vs Club América, July 20th, 1:15 AM UK time (because that’s 8:15 PM ET for me). Currently has my alarm set for 1:00 AM. Coffee will be brewing.
