Amorim ready to leave if he can’t lead Man Utd well
Manchester United have not been having a good time lately and the team has been underachieving. Their manager, Ruben Amorim, made it clear in an interview that he’s ready to resign if he can’t make United better.
Last Sunday, United lost 2-0 to West Ham United at their home ground, Old Trafford. It was their 17th Premier League defeat of the season. Since then, United have gone seven consecutive Premier League games without a win, with two draws and five losses. The run is the club’s worst since 1992.
United are now 16th in the Premier League table, a very dangerous position. It is important to note that United have not played this badly in a season since they were relegated in 1974.

Amorim also feels the pain of such a situation. He said: “As the manager of Manchester United, it’s difficult and embarrassing for me to see the team in this state.
He mentioned one problem in particular, which is that some people now feel that “everything is fine. He said, “What worries me the most is that we seem to be getting used to losing, and even starting to think that losing is okay. That’s the biggest problem. Because if we keep thinking, ‘We’re a big club anyway,’ it’s never going to change.
When a reporter asked him if there was a so-called “cultural” problem within United, Amorim did not answer “yes” or “no” directly, but said: “I don’t really want to use the word ‘culture’ but I can sense an attitude that there’s no urgency to do things. It’s not the players, it’s not one individual, it’s the whole atmosphere of the team that’s wrong. That’s what’s at stake.”
While Amorim did well to lead his team to the UEFA Cup final, his performances in the Premier League have been less than stellar. He has led United to just six Premier League wins since taking over last November. He’s under contract until 2027, but by his own admission he may not stay too long if results don’t improve soon.
He said: “I’m not criticising the players, I’m talking about the state of the club as a whole. We need to make some big changes in the summer and have the courage to change. If things continue like this, I think we should give other people a chance.
United next face Chelsea on Friday before the UEFA Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur on May 22. Although reaching the final will give them the chance to secure a place in the Champions League, Amorim admits that United are not yet ready for the challenge of Europe’s premier competition.
He said: “The last thing I’m worried about at the moment is playing in the final. More than that, we need to get to the root of the problem. The situation now is that whether it’s the Premier League or the Champions League, it’s too difficult for us. We have to face reality.
On whether or not to fight for Champions League qualification, Amorim also said, “I can’t say which result is better. Maybe not qualifying for the Champions League will make everyone more aware. The most important thing now is to play the game against Chelsea first and see if we can make some changes.
