Liverpool joins the race for Christopher Nkunku
Recent news suggests that the Reds could sign the French striker this summer. The transfer is under discussion.
Nkunku joined Chelsea from the German side RB Leipzig in 2023 for a transfer fee of £52 million. Many had high hopes for him and believed he could play a significant role for the Blues. However, he has struggled with injuries since joining Chelsea and has not played in many matches.
So far, he has only scored six goals for Chelsea in the Premier League. This is a bit different from what everyone expected. Recently, media outlets reported that Nkunku wanted to leave Chelsea to restart his career in a different environment.
Now, he is reportedly ready to negotiate with interested clubs. According to the French sports newspaper Foot Mercato, Liverpool is one of the clubs interested in signing him, and the two sides have already begun to make contact.
Liverpool is looking for a player who can play several attacking positions. They believe that Nkunku would be a good fit because he can play center forward, winger, and up front. This kind of versatile player is useful for a team that wants multiple tactical arrangements.
Apart from Liverpool, Bayern Munich has also expressed interest in Nkunku. They failed to sign him in January of this year, but now they want another try. Since Sané might be leaving Bayern, they need to find a replacement. Meanwhile, the Premier League’s Newcastle United are also keeping an eye on him.
Nkunku would like to join a team that plays in the Champions League so that he can play in high-level matches and improve his performance. However, he hasn’t played in almost a month, missing the last game against Manchester United due to injury.
He currently has four years left on his contract with Chelsea, but the Blues don’t intend to keep him for much longer. They hope to recoup around £35 million by selling him this summer.
Overall, although Nkunku has not performed up to expectations at Chelsea, he is still a capable player. If he can find a suitable club, he may be able to regain his form and play better in a new environment. Teams like Liverpool, Bayern, and Newcastle are considering giving him such a chance.
