Manchester United’s New Strengthening Plan Stalled by Difficulty in Selling Rashford & Anthony
Manchester United are in big trouble lately. They may not be able to sell two key players in their squad – Marcus Rashford and Anthony – in the upcoming transfer window. Meanwhile, club legend Paul Scholes has expressed his concerns over the signing of Mateusz Cunha from Wolves.
Rashford injury to affect transfer
Marcus Rashford is expected to miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury. Rashford was also unavailable for Manchester United’s 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-finals. His last appearance for the team before that semi-final was against Aston Villa.
The injury took Rashford about a month to recover from. This period of absence greatly reduced his transfer value. Originally, Aston Villa were interested in activating the £40 million release clause, but now they have begun to hesitate.
Rashford wants to join a club that can play Champions League football in the future. However, a sudden injury at the end of the season has made his transfer prospects very uncertain. This also makes it difficult for United to successfully sell him this summer.
Anthony’s transfer is also in trouble
Things are not looking good for Anthony either. Although he scored 9 goals in 18 games on loan at Real Betis in Spain, which is quite a good performance, Betis can’t afford him. Anthony’s transfer fee is a whopping €50 million (about £42.8 million), which is beyond Betis’ budget.
Manu Fajardo, the head of Betis, has said that they will do their best to keep Anthony, but may have to continue with a loan. United paid £81 million to get Anthony in the first place and would lose a lot of money if they sold him now at a low price. Given that United need a lot of money to bring in reinforcements in the summer, they certainly don’t want to lose money in this way.
Scholes warns against Cunha reinforcements
In this difficult situation, Manchester United are planning to bring in Mateusz Cunha from Wolves. However, Manchester United star Paul Scholes has expressed his concerns about the plan. In an interview with TNT Sport he said:
“Cunha has some of the qualities that United boss Amorim needs. United lack power and pace at the moment and Cunha is a very dynamic player who has scored 15 goals in the Premier League this season.
But to be honest, I am worried about who United buy at the moment because the team as a whole is poor.
Scholes went on to explain that United’s overall standard is low at the moment. He is not sure whether Cunha is better suited as a center forward or a winger, and although there is no problem with his individual ability, he is afraid that Cunha will find it hard to play like other players when he arrives at Manchester United. He also said that even if United bought three of the best players in the world, it might not be able to change the team’s predicament immediately.
Manchester United’s recruitment program may be blocked
United are reportedly looking to bring in Mateusz Cunha and Liam Delap when the summer transfer window opens in early June. But United’s rebuilding program could be seriously slowed down if the transfers of Rashford, Anthony and Sancho are delayed.
Not only will the team not be able to buy the players they want if they don’t have enough money, but they could also miss out on the best time to bring in reinforcements. This is a huge blow for United as they hope to return to the top flight next season.
