Getting Started
Heard folks wanted to mix up teams in the Bolivia League mod for FIFA 2005. Thought I’d figure it out and share. Grabbed the mod files first thing. Found a tool online everyone recommended for basic edits. Downloaded it, fingers crossed it wasn’t sketchy.
The Initial Struggle
Opened the tool, felt lost immediately. Loaded the main FIFA 2005 database file it asked for. Then tried pointing it to the Bolivia League mod files. Nothing looked familiar. Searched the folders for anything labeled “teams” or “league”. Found some files with weird names. Tried opening one – just a bunch of gibberish and numbers. Pure waste of time.
Almost gave up then remembered seeing a post mentioning a specific data folder. Dug deeper. Found a folder called “DataComp”. Inside? Lots of .big files. Okay, maybe something. The mod tool had an option to open these .big archives. Clicked it, picked one randomly…
The Lightbulb Moment
Boom! Inside that .big file? Finally saw stuff I recognized. Team names! Player lists! Felt like finding treasure. Looked specifically for files related to the league structure. Found one called or similar. That felt important. Also spotted files just filled with team IDs and names. That’s when it clicked.
- The team names list had IDs next to each Bolivian club.
- The compobj file controlled which teams played in which league using those same IDs.
Copied both files to my desktop for safety. Started with the team names file. Opened it in Notepad. Simple text, thank god! Saw the current Bolivian teams listed by ID.
Making the Swap
Wanted to swap two teams: The Strongest and Always Ready, just for testing. Found their IDs in the names file. Wrote them down. Then opened the compobj file.
This one was messier, but scrolled until I spotted the Bolivia League section. There were the team IDs, all bunched together. Searched for The Strongest’s ID. Found it. Replaced that ID with Always Ready’s ID right there in the text. Double-checked I typed the numbers right. Saved the file.
Saving & Testing
Dragged the edited compobj file back into the tool, replacing the one inside the .big archive it came from. The tool asked to “regen” files, hit yes. Closed everything carefully.
Launched FIFA 2005, holding my breath. Went straight to the Bolivia League. Scrolled through the teams… No Strongest! Looked again. Always Ready was in there twice! Crap. Must have messed up the IDs.
Went back to the files. Checked the team names file – yep, each team had a unique ID. Checked my compobj edit – realized I only replaced The Strongest’s ID with Always Ready’s ID, but I needed to actually swap them. Put The Strongest’s ID where Always Ready was originally listed instead. Fixed the text, saved again, replaced the file in the .big, regenned.
Reloaded FIFA. Checked the league. Perfect! The Strongest and Always Ready had officially switched places. Felt good.
Final Thoughts
It’s honestly kinda clunky messing with these old text files. Easy to fat-finger an ID number. Backing up everything first saved me big time. But once you get the hang of finding the ID list and the league file, swapping teams is just simple text editing. Not fancy, but it gets the job done. Wanted to share how I stumbled through it. Just did it!
