Alright so like, I gotta talk about these United kids, right? Because I accidentally fell down a rabbit hole. Seriously. It started simple.
Just Checking Scores Like Normal
One evening I was proper bored. My mates were busy, game got cancelled. So I ended up just clicking around the Premier League app, you know how it is. Then I saw it: “U21 Premier League” tucked away in a corner.
My brain went, “Hold up, United have kids playing?” Honestly didn’t know! Figured I’d just check their table spot. Quick glance.
Got Dragged Right In
Tapped the table. Expected top half, maybe. Big club resources, fancy academy and all that jazz. But nah. Scrolled down… down… further… blinking at the screen.
- Played: 17 games
- Won: Only 3? You kidding?
- Lost: Double figures, bruv
- Scored: Like, twenty-something?
- Conceded: More than forty! Defence leakier than my old kettle.
Bottom half. Way bottom half. My eyebrow practically hit the ceiling. “This can’t be right.” Started scrolling through their actual results. Loss, loss, draw, brutal loss… couple wins buried in there.
The Sinking Feeling
Then it hit me. This wasn’t just bad luck. They were getting smashed week in, week out. Looked at the squad ages – lots of 17, 18 year olds playing against seasoned 20/21 year olds. Big ask, but still… United!
Felt myself getting weirdly invested. Spent hours! Checking the table again, looking at the last 5 games form. Still awful. Seeing where other Big 6 youth teams were (mostly miles ahead).
Got proper annoyed. Why weren’t they doing better? Where was the talent? Ended up googling transfer news – saw loads of loans out, hardly any in. Made sense why the squad looked thin. But it felt bleak.
Why Keep Looking?
Honestly? Because I felt stuck. Like finding a bad reality show you can’t stop watching. Kept checking the table after every weekend. See if that ‘W’ column went up. It rarely did.
Total waste of time? Maybe. But now I kinda feel responsible for knowing. Like I’m their bad luck charm or something. Every table update is a sigh.
So yeah. That’s how I ended up obsessed with checking a youth league table every week. And how I found out Man United’s U21s are having a proper stinker of a season down there. Not the vibe I expected at all.
