So today I thought I’d dig into the Liverpool pre-season situation against Bologna FC. Woke up this morning, poured myself a coffee, and opened my laptop. Figured fans would wanna know who’s actually playing and who got sidelined. Started by checking Klopp’s presser snippets first.
The Injury Headache
First thing – injuries. Always messy with pre-season. Went through like five different sources. Official club site? Not much there. Then hit up local journos on Twitter. Pain in the neck cross-referencing all this:
- Salah – Out. Resting after that Olympic qualifier thing. Had to google which Egypt match it was specifically. Took ages.
- Trent Alexander-Arnold – Still out. Knee thing from before. Knew that already.
- Alisson Becker – Nope. Shoulder problem they said? Weird. Almost listed him before I saw the update.
- Szoboszlai – Big miss. Foot injury. Saw one rumour he’d be back soon, another said weeks out. Stuck with ‘out’ for now.
Kept refreshing news feeds while writing the list. Nearly missed the late update on Alisson. Almost put my foot in it there!
Who’s Actually Playing?
Right, now the lineups. Bologna’s easier ’cause they shared their squad earlier. Liverpool? Like pulling teeth sometimes. Pre-season is guesswork central.
- Liverpool: Kelleher in goal for sure. Defense? Think Gomez and Quansah starting together. Midfield was chaos – Bajcetic got some minutes finally! Jota and Nunez started up front. Kids like Clark and McConnell came later.
- Bologna: Their big signing Zirkzee started. Think Skorupski was in goal. Sounded like their main guys played decent minutes.
Checked the club’s official tweet right at kick-off to confirm names. Annoying when they post lineups last minute. Had to correct myself three times!
The Whole Pointless Kerfuffle
Why bother tracking this friendly nonsense, you ask? Exactly what I thought halfway through. Fans are obsessed though. Got fifty DMs yesterday asking about Salah. Figured I’d save everyone the hassle. Writing it all up felt like herding cats – rumours everywhere, club tweets vague as usual. Half the players I listed barely got thirty minutes anyway! Pre-season info feels flimsy, but hey, clicks are clicks. Finished the post with a big sigh. Let’s just hope nobody else gets hurt before United.
