Liverpool try again to sign Wiltz, but Leverkusen still won’t budge
It was recently reported that Premier League side Liverpool have once again made an offer to German club Leverkusen for midfielder Florian Wiltz, but this time it has still been rejected. As of now, no substantial progress has been made on the transfer.
Wiltz has been one of the best performers at Leverkusen over the past two years. He plays in the position of attacking midfielder, with good technique and strong awareness, and is one of the most talked about rising stars in European soccer. So it’s no surprise that many big clubs are interested in him.
For example, Premier League giants Manchester City had wanted to sign him because they were worried about the possibility of losing their team’s centerpiece player, Kevin De Bruyne, in the future. However, City later decided not to pursue the German youngster for the time being as the transfer fee was too high.Bayern Munich had also shown interest in Wiltz, but eventually he expressed his preference to join Liverpool.
Now, Liverpool see Wiltz as their most wanted target.Their first offer was 105 million euros (including some additional conditions), but this price did not impress Leverkusen. So Liverpool raised their offer again, with their second bid reaching €121 million, part of which was a fixed fee and the other part was to be determined by the player’s future performance.
However, according to German media Kicker, Leverkusen still did not accept this new offer. The club’s attitude is clear: they want at least 150 million euros before they are willing to release the player.Their CEO Carlo has also publicly stated, “We won’t let Wiltz go if we don’t reach the price we want.”
In order to be able to cut down on their cash outlay, Liverpool have also come up with a player swap, intending to use Javi Elliott and Jarel Quaasa as part of the deal as a way to reduce the total transfer fee.Meanwhile, they are also talking to Leverkusen about another deal – looking to buy winger Jeremie Frimpong for £29 million, a player who is seen as a potential replacement for Liverpool’s right-back Arnold.
Overall, while Liverpool are keen to sign Wiltshire, there is still a considerable gap between the two clubs in terms of price. What happens next will depend on whether both sides are willing to make concessions.
